Keegan Holmstrom of Grove City headlines the 2024 Dispatch All-Metro baseball team.

Holmstrom was named Baseball Athlete of the Year at theCentral Ohio High School Sports Awards on June 20 at Mershon Auditorium. The show, which was produced with the support of Middlefield Bank and Ohio Athletic Performance, honored athletes from 30 sports.

Taylor Bednar, Olentangy Berlin

The senior pitcher helped lead the Bears (27-4) to their first state tournament, where they lost to Twinsburg 4-1 in a Division I semifinal. The Akron signee finished 9-1and had a 1.22 ERA with 100 strikeouts and 17 walks in 63 innings. That included shutting out Olentangy Orange in a regional semifinal. Bednar was OCC-Cardinal Player of the Year and first-team all-district.

Konner Daughriety, Mount Vernon

The senior shortstop and pitcher was a key contributor for the Yellow Jackets (20-5) as he batted .512 with 13 doubles, one triple, six home runs and 30 RBIs and had a 25-game hitting streak. The four-year starter was first-team all-state and all-district in Division I and Player of the Year in the Ohio Cardinal Conference. Daughriety will play at Ashland University.

A four-year standout for the Greyhounds and an Ohio State signee, Holmstrom helped lead Grove City (25-5) to a Division I district final. A pitcher and first baseman, he batted .481 with five doubles, two triples, 17 RBIs and 27 runs scored. On the mound, he was 8-1 and had a 0.79 ERA with 51 strikeouts and 13 walks in 44 ⅓ innings. Holmstrom was Player of the Year in the district and OCC-Ohio and first-team all-state.

Greg Kennedy, Jonathan Alder

The senior pitcher helped lead the Pioneers (28-3) to a Division II regional final, throwing a perfect game in a 2-0 district championship game win over London. Kennedy finished 9-1 and had a 0.71 ERA with 95 strikeouts and 13 walks in 59 innings. The Lake Erie College commit was first-team all-state, all-district and all-Central Buckeye Conference-Kenton Trail.

Brayden Krenzel, Dublin Jerome

A Tennessee commit, Krenzel closed out a stellar career for the Celtics by being named first-team all-district and OCC-Cardinaland honorable mention all-state in Division I as a utility player. He batted .409 with 11 doubles, two triples, two home runs and 18 RBIs.Krenzel is the son of former Ohio State quarterback Craig Krenzel.

Keegan Knupp, Olentangy Orange

A junior pitcher and third baseman, Knupp helped lead Orange (21-8) to a Division I district title. He batted .381 with 32 RBIs, 25 runs scored and 17 stolen bases and was 5-2 on the mound. He was first-team all-state and all-district and Player of the Year in the OCC-Central as Orange won the league title at 12-3. Knupp has committed to Eastern Michigan.

Gavin Lawler, Grove City

Lawler, a junior third baseman and pitcher, helped Grove City reach a district final. He batted .453 with 15 RBIs, 32 runs scored and 26 stolen bases. On the mound, he was 6-0 and had a 0.95 ERA with 51 strikeouts and eight walks in 37 innings. He was first-team all-state, all-district and all-OCC-Ohio.Grove City won the OCC-Ohio at 15-0.

Charlie Marando, Dublin Scioto

A senior catcher, Marando proved to be a leader on and off the field for the Irish, helping them finish 21-8. He batted .388 with 12 RBIs, 35 runs scored and 19 stolen bases. The Wittenberg commit was first-team all-district and all-OCC-Capital and second-team all-state in Division I.

Ashton Martin, Jonathan Alder

A three-year starter for the Pioneers, Martin again provided key contributions as a pitcher and shortstop. The junior batted .490 with 16 doubles, two home runs, 35 RBIs and 22 stolen bases. On the mound, he was 6-0 and had a 1.21 ERA with 41 strikeouts and eight walks in 43 innings. An Ohio State commit, Martin was the Player of the Year in the state and district for Division II and CBC-Kenton Trail. Jonathan Alder won the league titleat 10-0.

A.J. McAninch, Watterson

The senior pitcher and third baseman helped lead the Eagles to a 22-2 season that included a CCL title (8-1). McAninch was 7-0 and had a 0.28 ERA with 70 strikeouts and six walks in 50 ⅓ innings. He recorded six shutouts, including a perfect game, and was named first-team all-state and all-district in Division II and first-team all-league. McAninch was also named to The Dispatch’s All-Metro team in football. He will play baseball at Marshall.

Parker McDaniels, Olentangy Berlin

The senior catcher helped Berlin capture the OCC-Cardinal title at 14-1 and its first district and regional championships. The Cincinnati commit batted .326 with seven doubles, 30 RBIs and 20 runs scored. He was first-team all-state, all-district and all-league. McDaniels was also named to The Dispatch’s All-Metro team in hockey.

Hayden Woodward, Heath

A senior pitcher, designated hitter and utility player, Woodward helped Heath (28-2) capture the Division III state title with a 3-1 win over Millbury Lake. He batted .435 with seven doubles, eight home runs, 46 RBIs and 24 runs scored. On the mound, he was 7-0 and had a 1.38 ERA with 33 strikeouts and 13 walks in 40 ⅔ innings. The Findlay commit was Player of the Year in the district and Licking County League-Cardinal along with first-team all-state.
