What is the longest you can keep a U-Haul? ›

Our extended days/miles rental option allows you to reserve the 8' Pickup truck or cargo van up to 90 days. If you're a small business owner who needs to make use of this option more frequently, consider signing up for a corporate account to receive the lowest rates.

Fill Every Space: A packed moving truck will prevent items from shifting. Look for gaps between furniture, and fill in every open space with furniture pads, or filling materials.

Credit / Debit Card Hold Times

U-Haul places a hold on your account on all local moves. Once you return your equipment and we have an exact amount to charge your account we use the amount held to collect the total amount due.

Stack boxes on top of your rows; heavier boxes should be at the bottom. Load heaviest items like your washer and dryer into the truck first. Fill gaps using furniture pads and/or smaller items to minimize shifting.

U-Haul late fees

U-Haul charges a $40 late fee for each extra day you keep your rental truck. It also charges $20 per day for trailers and towing devices.

Should you load boxes or furniture first? In the majority of cases, you'll want to load furniture first because it is generally heavier than boxes. However, there are exceptions: If you have large, heavy boxes, you should load those before light pieces of furniture, such as coffee tables or dining room chairs.

When loading the refrigerator into a moving truck or trailer, use the EZ Load Ramp. Pull the refrigerator up the ramp while walking backwards, rather than push it up the ramp. Again, have your spotter here to make sure you're on track and loading safely.

Unused days or mileage are not refunded. Additional days and additional miles are charged at the pre-agreed rate on the contract. Upon check-in fuel, vehicle damage and vehicle condition will be verified. With U-Haul, you can even check the truck in yourself with your smartphone if you choose to self-return your truck.

But in general, average mileage fees are between $.59 and $.99 per mile driven. If additional miles/days are needed, we offer special rates on cargo van and pickup truck rentals. Be sure to choose the right size truck for your in-town rental.

Can I use my debit card for U-Haul? ›

A major credit card or debit card with a major credit card logo is required at time of pick up for all Cargo Van and Pickup Truck rentals and will be authorized at that time. Can I use a debit card to reserve or rent U-Haul equipment? Yes, debit cards with a Visa or Mastercard logo can be used to rent U-Haul equipment.

Cardboard boxes: These are excellent for packing folded clothing. Wardrobe boxes: These are perfect for packing clothes in hangers, so the unpacking process is faster and easier. Suitcases and duffel bags: An excellent alternative to cardboard boxes that can help to pack folded clothes and shoes.

Use ropes and tie downs to secure your items to the walls of the box, and use a tarp if hauling a trailer. This will prevent damage to your cargo during the ride, as well as keep your load stable. 2. Use a lock: Keeping your cargo secure doesn't just mean within the truck or trailer.
